I did my summer training with this division of Microland Computers, which is soon going to be hived off as a separate company. This site is meant to be a portal for Indian IT professionals, in India or abroad. I basically developed a few IT implementation case studies for their upcoming website named www.ITspace.com. I covered a variety of technologies ranging from basic networking to ERP. I am still a content partner with the site.
Joined in August 1995. The company is into the field of MEG manufacturing(20,000TPA) and a variety of Ethoxylates. The technical know-how has been taken from Scientific Design Company, USA and PressIndustria, Italy. I was placed in the Technical Services department. My job involved monitoring the plant's various parameters on a daily basis. Also, I had to calculate some crucial performance parameters such as catalyst selectivity, productivity etc. On the projects side, I worked as a key member of the core team for two new projects. My responsibilities included, apart from routine jobs, to develop basic engineering packages for these new projects. Which meant I had to : develop Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (PIDs) based on the technical and process information received from the licensers; prepare data sheets for all the equipment i.e. process equipment, pumps, Control Valves, various accessories e.g. agitators, PSVs etc.; prepare line schedule etc. Besides, I had also been entrusted with the job of computerization of our departmental Design calculations procedures for equipment etc. and of catalyst performance monitoring.
Joined as a GET from Nov. '94 to June '95. The company is into manufacturing of Urea (2250 TPD). It is a huge complex & a new plant with latest technical know-how from Snamprogetti, Italy. I was placed in the Urea unit where I got hands-on experience of very powerful & state-of-the-art DCS( Yokogawa CENTUM -XL) & PLC (Allen Bradley).
Learnt and handled all the production activities in Chips plant (75
TPD). Along with, I got the experience of solid state polymerization.
