    Nandi Hills

    Nandi Hills

It was a nice cold morning. Weather was breezy and cloudy. Again drove to our favourite place Nandi Hills with parents. I had not expected it to be such a great trip as it turned out to be eventually. I have never seen Nandi Hills like that before. It was extremely full of clouds and we were in the middle of it. Visibility was probably 5-7 meters only!! It was a little cold, just perfect weather for that family outing in the middle of monsoon season. Had breakfast, went to the view points but it was too windy to stand there. Took a walk to Nehru Nilaya (aka NehruNilaya), where once Nehruji had stayed. The bungalow was used as summer residence by Sir MarkCubbon K.C.B. Commissioner of Mysore during 1834-1861. (btw, Cubbon Park in Bangalore city is also named after the same person). Another interesting bit is that the 1986 SAARC summit was held at NehruNilaya! Currently, it serves as public guesthouse and comes under the department of horticulture. On the way back, went to the Jain pilgirmage named 'Shri Siddhachal-Sthulabhadra Jain Teerth Dham' at Devanahalli. We had discovered this on an earlier trip to Nandi Hills and ever since wanted to take my parents there. The pilgrimage is set up by Shri Sthul Bhadrasurishwarji maharaj (from Gujarat, I think). The main temple is constructed by Shri Jivanlal Godidas Shankheshwar Pvt Trust, Ahmedabad (Gujarat). Its a huge place covering the whole hillock just at the Nandi Hills turn on NH-207. Interestingly, from here, you get a view nice view of the "Shri Nakoda Avanti 108 Parshwanath Jain Teerth Dham" which is located in the main Devanahalli town. We had lunch at the Sthulbhadra Teerth bhojanalaya and then headed to the Nakoda Jain Teerth at Devanahalli. After the temples were done, we dropped in at Tipu Sultan's Birth Place, before heading back to Bangalore. Also, stopped at Jakkur for a bit.
