    Ooty & Mysore

    Sep 9-10, 2006

Hired a cab, went to Ooty. No plans to stop en route at Mysore, but couldn't resist the urge to goto Chamundi Hills. Walked from Chamundeshwara temple to the Nandi statue when we realized that our driver had left his phone at home, hence was uncontactable. So, walked on road from Nandi all the way back up to Chamundi temple! Anyways, started for Ooty. On the way, stopped at Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Frog Hill view, fantabulous Nilgiris forests, Pykara Falls, Cinema Shooting Medu, and reached Ooty in the evening. Went to many hotels to check 'em out, decided to stay at The Nilgiri Woodlands. In the evening went to see Thread Garden. In the morning, took a nice walk near hotel, went to the railway station to book the 12:45 hrs toy train trip. Came back quickly to have breakfast at hotel and then started off for Doddabetta peak. At 8640 ft above MSL, Doddabetta is the highest peak in South India! On the way back to ooty, stopped at The Tea Factory and took a guided tour of the the whole tea 'manufacturing' process. Now, it was time to start our fabulous train trip to Conoor. On the way to Conoor, we passed these stations: Lovedale, Ketti, Aravankadu, Wellington. Our driver had reached Conoor much before us. Had lunch @ Conoor and took off to Rose Garden and Dolphin's Nose. Then, it was time to come back home via Ooty! In the night, many elephant herds crossed the road, and we had to wait for them to go. Gunjan even combined the reality with fear, and dreamt about some dacoits charging at us! Those nightmares notwithstanding, we reached Bangalore by early morning Monday!
