Sravanbelgola (aka Bahubaliji, Sravanabelgola, Shravanbelgola, Shravanabelgola)

As, parents were in Bangalore for my convocation, a week after that, we went to Sravanbelgola. The great thing was that since the last Mahamasthakabhisheka (or Mahamasthak Abhishek) had just taken place in Feb 2006, the padding was still on (till May end). So, we could go upto the deity's head and perform Mahamasthakabhisheka. We performed abhishek with water consecrated with milk, turmeric, vermillion etc. It was quite a sight to behold. An event that takes place only every 12 years, next  Mahamasthakabhisheka is now scheduled to be held only in year 2018. Previously, I had been to the 1982 Mahamasthakabhisheka as a kid! On the way back, stopped at Prakrit Bhavan where they have various courses for Prakrit language. Most of the old scholarly/religious Jain literature is written in Prakrit. On the way back to Bangalore, discovered and stopped at Shree Parshwa Labdhi Tirth Dham, a temple on the outskirts of Bangalore (Tumkur Road).
